One of our long time favorites, the Rouleur is back as part of our Prologue Alloy Series. A great upgrade over a heavy stock OEM wheel, the Rouleur offers a modern 19mm wide internal / 25mm wide external tubeless rim bed.

Imagine this. It’s Friday, you are in your office staring at the computer for 2 more hours and your buddies are planning a ride in the woods. You just got a new gravel bike because everyone in your circle is ditching road bikes and jumping off of the beaten path. We have your wheel set for that adventure, the Jocassee!

This isn’t just another repurposed wheel set that would just work for Gravel, we started fresh. See, we rode gravel on 25mm tires at 1st, then jumped up from 28mm eventually to 40mm. Each time the tire size increased, the bike geometry and gear ratio changed. The traction was better, but the handling was worse. Using a 650b X 47mm tire you have the same outside tire diameter as a 700c road tire. So for your gravel bike you can run the 650b gravel tires for off road riding, and swap to 700c road wheels for road group rides and nothing changes with the geometry or gear ratio on the bike. Throw in our Quest centerlock hubs, Pillar Wing 20 spokes, external brass nipples and you have the ideal gravel wheel set, built to withstand your hardest rides on your most adventurous weekends!

This is not the wheelset to use with both 25mm road tires and also gravel tires. The Altamont Lite is perfect for that. The CCC is a gravel optimized wheelset, for when you want to have the best possible configuration for those larger tires.

The CCC is a gravel-specific wheelset built to take you far off the beaten path. The new light weight, durable alloy wheelset complements Boyd’s current carbon Pinnacle 700c and Jocassee 650b offering and promises adventure at an affordable $700 price point.

The CCC, a name engrained in history as the wooded roads it represents, borrows its moniker from the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). The CCC was a voluntary public unemployment program designed to provide jobs for young men and to help families who faced challenges finding jobs during the Great Depression. In the mountains of South Carolina there are remnants of “Old CCC” roads deep in the woods that have become favorite exploration destinations for Boyd Johnson, founder of Boyd Cycling.

The 6069 series alloy rim weighs in at 415 grams in a 700c size and 395 grams in the 650b. Built with the highly rated Quest Disc Brake hubs, the complete wheelset nets a scant 1515 grams for 700c set and 1475 grams for the 650b. Spoke count options are 24f/28r and 28f/32r built using Pillar Wing 20 spokes and external brass nipples.

“Going way off the beaten path and onto roadbeds that haven’t been active for decades is some of the most fun I’ve had on a bike,” said Johnson. “I’ve come across old moonshine distilleries and people on 4-wheelers, but never any traffic. Going that remote means the durability of the equipment is a must.”

With that in mind the CCC is a wheelset that can handle rugged off-road terrain, while still performing on pavement sections. The alloy gravel-specific rim is 25mm internal and has a 2.8mm offset. It features smaller .7mm hooks (compared to most standard 1.1mm hooks) with increased thickness on the hook walls (1.35mm) for better impact protection while running lower pressures.

Gravel seems to be all that everyone is talking about. Gravel rides and races are exploding in popularity. However, most people have a gravel bike as their second or third bike. Outfitting that bike with carbon wheels is not for everybody, and having a price-attractive, high performing alloy wheelset is a much needed product.

Designed from the ground up to harmoniously function as a system with modern disc brake road bikes. The enormous 29mm external & 22mm inner hooked rim width gives 25-32mm tubeless or tubed road tires a voluminous shape that enhances ride quality, increased traction, which provides more comfort for those long days in the saddle. This handcrafted wheel is laced with double-butted j-bend spokes and brass nipples and features a 2.8mm spoke offset to ensure better spoke balance. Two cross lacing pattern built to withstand high-torque loads, and a 36mm rim depth provides aerodynamic gains. This wheel spins Boyd Quest disc brake hubs that feature five degrees of engagement, quick swap freehub body, press-fit end caps and is compatible with Shimano, Sram and Campagnolo cassettes. This disc brake specific wheelset weighs in at 1560g and is for every day and every road.

It may be easier to ask, “What can’t this be used for?”. If you like to take your bike and ride everywhere, then the 36 is that all around great option. Equally at home on blustery beach front roads and in the high mountains. With the large 22mm internal width, you can even throw some gravel tires on and go play in the dirt a bit. Note that if you are looking for a pure dedicated gravel wheelset, the Pinnacle Hookless may be a better option
