SpeedChip. SpeedChip is the go to when you need the absolute fastest option available. It is the choice of Visma Lease-a-Bike for time trials and one day classics. SpeedChip is a full synthetic wax produced from the same exotic base oils used in SILCA Synergetic. This is the absolute fastest wax ever used in a cycling lubricant, blended with 3 sizes of sub-micron and nanoscale Tungsten Disulfide platelets for further reduced friction and anti-wear properties. Proven in testing to permanent increase chain efficiency by up to 0.6% over SILCA SecretBlend hot melt, with the only downside being more frequent lubrication intervals required (see chart for more details).

EnduranceChip. EnduranceChip is the best option for ultra-endurance events or training chains to get the most longevity out of your components. EnduranceChip is a semi-synthetic wax blend boasting some of the longest molecular chain lengths possible in a wax for ultimate durability. Adding EnduranceChip to SecretBlend can permanent increase the distance between re-waxing by as much as 2.5X (up to 750km) while still being as fast as the top wet lubricants and significantly faster than any dry lubricant. Add a second chip for even further single application longevity.

One of the secrets behind Secret Chain Blend is that it’s a mix of 4 unique types of wax and not just Paraffin like most other hot wax products. This blend of waxes along with our proprietary WS2 has kept the Secret Chain Blend on top of the ZeroFrictionCycling charts for the last 3 years with many competitors reformulating to get close, but none of them able to beat it.

The 4 wax mix has allowed SILCA to blend what we felt was the best overall mix of high performance, dirt resistance, and application longevity, but over the years as we’ve worked with professional gravel athletes, WorldTour teams, Olympic medalists and more, the request has come up over and over again to custom formulate waxes for specific events or situations. Rather than make an endless number of custom blends, early in 2024 we started shipping two different wax additive kits to our athletes and teams for testing new formulations based on their events and experiences.

The challenge in formulating waxes is that the fastest, most exotic waxes, tend not to last as long per application, while the most durable, longest lasting waxes tend not to be as fast. Rather than blending new and custom formulations for each event, we gave the power to formulate to the athletes, and the results they came back to us with have been incredible with more than 100 victories in WorldTour, Lifetime Grand Prix, the Olympics and many more!

Far and away, the largest hurdle for people converting to a waxed drivetrain has always been the need to completely strip the factory lubricant from the chain in order for the wax to properly adhere. Traditional methods have involved using 2-3 different solvents and rinse steps, moving from non-polar solvents that thin greases and oils to progressively more polar solvents that evaporate quickly to eliminate residues.

For the design of SILCA Chain Stripper, we started from the end and worked backwards, identifying chemicals which drive out greases and oils while promoting wax adhesion to metal. The result is an organic cleaner that lifts and encapsulates greases and oils allowing them to easily be rinsed away from the metal surface. The result is the world’s first wax optimized chain cleaner which not only removes greases and oils, but actually primes the metal surface for improved adhesion from wax lubricants.

The aggressive ‘lift and encapsulate’ action of SILCA chain stripper allows for 2 quick and easy cleaning options.

Option 1: For hot-melt waxing a new, factory chain with SILCA Secret Blend Hot Melt, simply immerse the chain in the Stripper and agitate 30 seconds. Allow to sit for 5-10 minutes and agitate again for 30 seconds. Remove the chain from the Stripper and rinse with water and then drop the chain directly into the hot wax, the water will boil off within a few minutes and the chain will be fully waxed with up to 30% longer application life than a chain cleaned by traditional methods.

Option 2: For drip applied waxing of a new or nearly new chain with SILCA Super Secret without removing the chain from the bicycle. Apply 1 drop of SILCA Chain Stripper to each roller of the chain while backpedalling. Allow to soak for 5 minutes. Backpedal 10 revolutions of the crank to agitate cleaner and re-apply 1 drop per roller allowing to sit for 5 more minutes. Rinse with clean water while backpedalling at least 10 revolutions.

What is it: SILCA Chain Stripper is a highly concentrated, biodegradable degreaser combined with a wax adhesion promoter (primer) which allows for fast, single step preparation of factory chains for waxing while also improving wax adhesion and increasing longevity. SILCA Chain Stripper reduces the time and number of chemicals required to properly prep a factory greased chain to less than 10 minutes and can even be used to prepare chains on bicycle for drip wax application.

SILCA CHAIN WAXING SYSTEM

The Ultimate Chain Waxing System is your compact at-home kit for immersive waxing of chains. The wax warmer, drip stand, and cable coupler are included to make you ready-to-roll for having the cleanest, quietest and most efficient drivetrain possible.

The wax melter has a vented clear lid to retain heat while being able to verify the wax is fully melted. Perfect companion for StripChip to wax your chain in a single, no degreaser, step.

For ultimate accuracy we use a PID controller rather than a thermostatic one. This means we are only heating the wax to the specified temperature to not risk overheating that can occur with a standard crock pot style heater. Due to this more precise control, it is advised to heat to 125c to speed up the melting process and drop to 75c for waxing as the wax is getting heated. This will create the fastest time to application available.

The chain hanging stand allows for a no mess drying period where you can allow excess wax to drip right back into the pot to use for the next application. The notched base retains the melter in place and holds the chain coupler securely in place.

The chain coupler has a steel cable that is threaded on one side allowing it to be looped through your chain and secured on the other side. Dip your chain in the wax, agitate, and hang all without getting wax anywhere you don’t want it or touching a pot of hot wax.

What is it: SILCA Gear Wipes are two-sided, disposable towels designed to remove dirt, grease oils, and sweat from your cycling gear. Each wipe contains a textured scrubbing side for removal of heavy dirt or grime and a soft polishing side for finish cleaning which leaves behind a spotless shine. The wipes use cosmetic grade cleaning agents which are safe for use on hands and skin but contain no lotions or moisturizers which can leave behind streaks or slimy residues.

Why We Designed It

SILCA gear wipes were initially developed by Brandon Hirokawa, the creator of the Hirobel frame clamp and pro-mechanic in cycling and triathlon. The wipes are originally formulated to clean dirt, grease, oil, sweat and even drink mix residue from frames and components, however, it was quickly realized that the unique fast evaporating non-solvent based cleaning agent could make dirty white bar tape white again with no slimy residue, clean running shoes and clean dirty hands after a day in the workshop. This amazing cleaner has been mated with the top end Kimberly Clark dual surface substrate for maximum cleaning power. Each towel has a scrubbing side for heavy dirt and grease as well as a polishing side for delicate surfaces and finishes cleaning/polishing.
